A Slapshot Sunday?

Alright alright alright, so Canada won Men's Hockey. And while it's disappointing, and I'd like the good ol' USA bring home the bacon (Canadian Bacon? Perhaps that would be a conflict of interest?), I think Americans are taking things a liiiiiittle too hard. A 7 News commentator who came on directly after the game yelled ignorantly into my television "YOU JUST AREN'T A SPORTS FAN IF THIS WASN'T AN INCREDIBLE GAME FOR YOU." And I gotta say, that I just HATE when people tell you that if you don't feel they way they do about something trivial, that you're total shit.

Also, 7 News interviewed a woman in a bar in Allston (frighteningly close to my idiot-proof home) who said "I'm just devastated, I really wanted USA to win the Gold, and I'm totally bummed out that they di'n't. Just devastated." OK. REALLY? DEVASTATED? Shouldn't we save terms like that for real tragedies? Get a fucking grip. I like sports too, and I watched the game, but honestly, let's get our heads out of our asses.

And when all the players from both teams play for the NHL, the supposedly inspiring division created by nations battling for supremacy on the ice is a bit lost, since most Americans will just go back to cheering for the Canadians when they re-join the pros in a few days. Can't we just let Canada have something fun for once? It must suck to always be the slightly less interesting/entertaining/cool version of America. Not that I don't loooove hundreds of thousands of ice and tundra.
